my nanny, my hero!

Last 109th Independence Day, our Photography class under LIGHTFORM (Dubai's Filipino Photographers Guild) were mandated to present an individual photo that may well exemplifies an OFW’s unparalleled heroism abroad. Here's what I submitted:

Behind the Scene: For a dramatic retro touch, I painted the same with Sepia. One may also visualize my “70’s backdrop” as an Arab family’s doorway but the truth is: it was only a Mosque’s rear-side. As per ISO & Aperture mode setting? ahh.. sorry, could'n't retract.

Undertime from work in Dubai, I rushed my way to Sharjah and grabbed my surprised models en-route to our neighboring Mosque in Al Majaz Park. As the sun tipped-off to set down her grace in few mins & w/ 2 superbly-agitated children, it took me nerves to carry a speedy yet meticulous point & shoot procedures. Add to this, I had no tri-pod support. Disconcerting even more was our stolen moments w/ the Holy site where the “crime” was immediately & successfully perpetrated. With ultra-conservative, yet fuming eyes watching over in-the-open, I told you, it was a cat among the pigeons scenario.

Acknowledgment: My Nikon D40 SLR Camera for making me a wannabe professional -photographer for a day. Ate Letlet, my businesswoman flatmate from Davao who poses gamely as the “Nanny”. Her golds (as an xtra trivia) has to be removed by wonders of AdobePs for art-realism purposes. My nephew Rom Vinz (3 yrs) and niece Jen Ryza (1 yr) for learning how to freeze even for split of seconds. Bang, my younger sis (their real-life Tita-nanny) who also gave a hand but preferred to miss the print.

It didn't win in the competition proper though, but I didn’t mind. I cared for the lead character’s elements of prized importance, defining qualities & supreme sacrifices that brought her to my border, -
Unsung HEROes of all times who deserve sweeter recognition more than this.

On Queue w/ Cueshe’

My alliance with the Editorial Team behind the Filipino Expats Magazine gave me the chance to get my writing piece published, attend media-production venture and entertainingly, meet a lot of visiting talents. After Mega & Eric Santos’ pre-christmas concert at Dxb Tennis Stadium, CUESHE, - Cebu’s eminent ensemble of 6 came to town for a one-night gig setting-off supporters to swamp wildly at Delmon Hotel’s Chikka Grill Bar. The venue has had difficulty housing the increasing crowd so Editor Andrew Moreno (perhaps, seeing me in a muscle-shirt) ordered me to do a job of “Superman” - as one of the "Hawi Boys" to both living and non-living things that go against the way of the band. The extra scene we created bowled-over my mischievous watching Officemates, and as expected, my legs were pulled.
Mike Manaloto (drums), Ruben Caballero, Jay Justiniani, (Vocals & Guitar)
Jovan Mabini ( Guitar), Fritz Labrado (Bass) & Jhunjie Dosdos (Keyboard)

I’m in sync, anyway with Photographer Fred Rubio, Instrumentalist Marlon (of Brown Republic band) my ramp model-dude Brixx Javier (deglamorized, yet had merry ears as the BoyBand fans swoon over him too - matrona’s esp who’d mistaken him for Piolo). Ditto, spotlight was'nt wholly taken from the Club’s Kenyan Bouncers even we had hard time forming a barricade as we occasionally lose sight and grabs at them… (white teeth that glows in the dark does help -God is fair) :).
Just out of nowhere, this bunch of young men turned themselves in and mess things for us. Nope, they're not thugs, but they hold sinful way of making people’s hair let down. They’ve gained the multitude’s admiration for an explosive stage performances with their sound so masculine, aggressive and powerful, yet smooth and seductive at times. Their alternative and rock influences are evident in the warm responses of the party-loving 3 G’s in this so-called City of golds -girls, guys and gays, to wit.

After sequence of ground-breaking acts, we hurdled fast to their den upstairs (pag sikat pala parang hinahabol ng taga). In their couch-beds, they leaped, crawl and cool-down their jaded and partly ba
re bodies who fiddles still with a different timezone. Son of a gun, the boys’ garments are all over (you guys are my spitting image - parang sawa na nagiiwan na balat kung saan-saan, :) he,he). Whilst each grabbed minutes of munch and rest, Jay, the troop’s heart-rob chose to jam w/ us. He has had Gary V’s energy, Martin N’s PR and kutis na alagang Belo. Funny, 'just watched him in the hot-standing seat w/ Kris Aquino in GKNB and now, he put me in the same post, frying me w/ strings of inquiries on Dubai’s “extraordinary G-micks”. In behalf of his gang in Cueshe’, he’d made an exciting strolling-plans with us - Desert Safari’s Adventure on the topmost. Just plans. They flew back to Manila the ff day to prepare for Guam. Their faces promised tho, that (Inshalla') our plans will not remain a plan. Their fans had a dear time and so are they . I announced the same, ...even with my eyebugs, sweat and bruises.

The Hunt for the Big H

"I don’t need the Big H, small one will do "– my quote

The potent impact and/or emotional pull of this 2006 drama-film is a complex mix of deep nostalgia & profound moments. Enriched with flashbacks, the movie moved my wits from tip to toe. Interestingly, the same is not just another “feel-good” story, it is “a thoughtful musing of myself and an honest re-count of my then and now brawl with life”; Was only made flamboyant for my own lonesome eyes to see. Such film, to foster, is a household tattle-tale of patience, love, faith, courage, determination..all -

In pursuit of HAPPINESS.

Eversince I bumped into the "real" world, I came to patiently chase for this golden H, but with projected dismay, the treasure, seemingly, is a mission-impossible thing to conquer. Nonetheless, I’m in no way would remain lackluster in seeking for the authentic one. Not even a lone ranger in pursuing this focal task. I’m In-the-vein of every man.

The Pursuit of Happyness (misspelled on purpose) was based on the true story of Chris Gardner, a struggling salesman of bone-density scanner and a payless intern of a stock brokerage firm while homeless and on the breadline. Will Smith (Gardner) and Smith's real-life boy, Jaden Smith's (Christopher) shining performances as Father & Son have earned warm applauses by universal audience and reaped thumbs-up by America’s prestigious award giving bodies and on-line critics. For jerking my tears, keeping me diverted and lessons learnt, I’m giving it my standing ovation -with clapping hands o'er my head.
The movie proved just right that NO STORM (our tribulations) does settle in one place. Sooner, it will depart for another. Thereafter, the worn-out spirits shall find time to celebrate the gift of serenity and peace. That’s exactly what a spectacular rainbow signifies in the then dusky sky - a scenic sign of LOVE and PROMISE sent by God to mankind. HAPPINESS. Can be found only by those who believe there is.
