Following to arrest of Men who are sporting long hair and short pants, Dubai’s cousin Emirates and more conformist rival SHARJAH (the place where I labor & live @present) had spewed the other day its militia of undercover police agent aka C.I.D. (Criminal Investigation Dept) in their newest task of clamping-down and impounding silver ornaments found in the wrist, ears, lip, neck and yeah, nose of its male occupants and visitors. This after being taken & lectured "inside”. Click here for some more shocking info..
.
Weird as it sounds, the news of re-enforcing the old Islamic law had given the strong gender a lump in the throat. Thus, a non-fiction script was made by me, inspired by the rant of my fellow "in the name of free but risky journalism" Blogger in this part of the land.
."Take out those Silver, man .. Its too Gay!"
.
Me: sadeeq (friend), time to get rid of those metallic chain out of your neckline, otherwise the two of you will be apprehended by CID.
Khalid: No way!, My granny gave me this necklace as a gift and it mean so much to me.
Me: But authority’s science project says, silver necklaces and its kind are a gateway to homosexuality. I heared, it cost ‘em a whopping $2B/year to rehabilitate gays through education & hormonal injections.
Khalid: I am not a Gay, and I’m not a criminal! And I don’t think my granny gave this just to turn me into one.
Me: Fine. Just cloak your hippie-effects under your shirt while in Sharjah, and bring it out when you’re in Dubai or AbuDhabi.

"It's Haram"....who says?
.
.
Me: So you're an Asian, ...and an “ex-con”.. are you horrified?
.
James: Yeah. I was seized without knowing WHY? The law's meant for Muslim male or not, young and old.
.
James: Yeah. I was seized without knowing WHY? The law's meant for Muslim male or not, young and old.
.
Me: So you’re telling me you’re ignorant of this existing 8 years decency law?.
.
.
James: Are’nt they'r blind as a bat?, Straight guys w/ heavy silver are rampant in the streets. Teen-age boys are even prancing with it. Nobody has ever told me wearing it is haram!. (bad).
.
Me: So are you questioning Sharjah’ s ala-Saudi style of veiled practice?
.
James: At least public awareness is a must, prior to catching.
.
Me: And the point of origin must as well inform the newbies of specifics, yeah?
.
James: I wondered too, why they are seemed lenient here with Queer men in kandura (long white robe) wearing eyeliner & foundation, but not with men wearing silvers. Insanity & hypocricy at it's best. I'll go for gold next time.

.Perhaps, this is the "Be Roman while in Rome” cliche is all about w/c I rephase to "Be Sharjaites while in Sharjah”. Now I think of living-back in the open, but more chaotic city of Dubai - or better live this baffling country for good. :D
.
.
BUT WAIT...
.
Aren't the "catching-department" missed the glittering fact - that the Shiekdom's Biggest and Oldest Gold & Silver Souq (market) stood strong in Sharjah, indeed a thriving industry for decades now - and have been a famous landmark and tourist attraction in the region? Ditto, Isnt it ironic, the male species can actually buy those Silvers here, but can't wear it here?
.
....my big mouth's JUST ASKING.

huhu..poor boy .. not allowed to wear silver..but it's an irony at the same time if they are selling AU and AG in that place and can't wear it, better buy nothing...hahaha!
oissstt..me approval na ata Bro.. AJ..parang ako...have a great weekend ahead!
Kakaiba naman pala dyan ano. Ang weird naman ng law na yan. But as you have said, Kapatid, "while in Rome, do as the Romans do." To each his own, ika nga.
Doesn't this make us grateful that we are born in a country that respects freedom and individuality? Maswerte tayong mga pinoy hehehe
@angel: true. useless ung newly purchased kong silver bracelet d2. sa ibang emirates ko lang puedeng isuot. n yeah, may anonymous kaseng commenter na tinitira ko eh. so now im on safe mode.
Ms. N: txs for the intelligent ad, sis. yeah, were kinda lucky, pero delikado rin ang mga silver satin.
Ay ganun pala diyan? Interesting to know although annoying.
This reminds me of Saudi Arabia's mutawwas (AKA the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vices - ha ha ha, I still laugh at that one) who stood as if they were the law, brandishing their super-sized egos while trying to hide their hypocrisies beneath their Papa Smurf beards.
Hi Aj...
Thanks for dropping ulit sa page ko ha...
About that silver issue, hmmm... safe pla pag girl, but di parin ako punta jan .. hehehe! wala sa ayos noh?
Hayzz! kapagod pa rin yung practice namin,. sakit sa buto.

I don't know what to react with that! Those people there are getting really freaky with the ridiculous laws they are implementing!
I heard couples are not allowed PDA's and hold hands in public and must prove if they are married. So did they expect people to always have their marriage contract with them?!!!
And now wearing silver or gold? Ironic that Sharjah's got a huge souk!!!!
Abslolute stupidity, if I may say!
This may sounds weird but this is part of the Islamic Law. Totoo ang sinabi ni Nomadic Pinoy - this rule has been applied in Saudi..
But as expats, we have to submit ourselves to their law. Host pa rin natin sila kaya wala tayong magagawa. We have no right to complain.
The "queeriosity" of the Arab men are pretty much hidden in their "kandura". Kung tutuusin magmukhang bakla pa nga sila sa actions nila (napakahinhin)compared to those non-arab men wearing those silvers.
Musta na bro AJ?
each society has their own practices and culture to follow. As long as they dont abuse the most basic human rights and they can justify why they are practicing it, we'll just respect it.
@mum sheng: cool ka lang mum, sample palang yan hehe.. u r right, no PDA here as well :D
@ruph: i agree, we need to abide by the rules.. however, some rules are "veiled" for somebody to follow..
@KJ:true. though, i regret to inform u that basic HR here are broken as per their law.
Napaka strict naman. Sa bahay na lang susuotin o sa pagtulog ang mga silver.
Hay naku nman noh! Very strick nga, edi dapat di sila magbenta para walang maisusuot habang anjan hehehe. Thanks for sharing. =D
Summer
A Writers Den
The Brown Mestizo
I've read that in gulfnews two weeks ago. and i asked my colleagues about it. and it's true. it's forbidden.
sabi nga ni ruel, we should abide... we can always buy gold.. women can always wear it. as for you gents, just give those gold to us! lolz!
Wow, strange indeed. Never knew silver can make you gay.
Maybe they're anticipating a big conflict with the lycanths and are merely trying to collect free silver.
Preposterous?
Just as preposterous as it causing homosexuality in my opinion.
waw bago na.
@RED: oo bro, parang ganon na nga.
@summer: thats the irony of it is all about.
@philos: it is indeed, and hey they can never stop straight men from wearing one.
@bino: :)
